The Victorian Clinical Genetics Services (VCGS), which is based at Murdoch Childrens Research Institute, has launched a new non-invasive prenatal test (NIPT), percept™.

percept™ uses cell free fetal DNA (cfDNA) found in maternal blood, to identify the most common chromosome conditions seen in newborns, and is a simple and reliable option that is processed and analysed at the Murdoch Childrens in Melbourne.  This is in contrast to other non-invasive tests which are sent off shore to be analysed.

The test offers a highly accurate screening test for families, identifying pregnancies at increased risk of conditions such as Down syndrome, Edwards syndrome and Patau syndrome.

percept™ can be performed any time from 10 weeks of pregnancy and results are available in 3-5 business days from when the laboratory receives the sample. The test costs $489 AUD, with all profits going back into research performed by the Murdoch Childrens.

Find out more about percept™ in the video below, or visit the VCGS website.
